Even though I don’t write it as often as I should, Monthly Favorites is my favorite kind of post to write. At times, in the chaos of life, it is easy to lose track of things that are making you happy or are simply making your life that bit easier. But planning a post like this makes me actually pause and think about my daily routine; what are the simple things I use everyday? Do I get joy from using them? Do they simplify my life? Would I recommend them to a friend? And I come up with a kick-ass list of things that I have been loving lately and share them with you here.
It is quite hard for me to resist a new Chanel fragrance. The best solution for this weakness of mine is to avoid smelling the fragrance at all costs. And in this way I am saved from buying another perfume that I don’t really need but am desperate to have. Things were going well for me after the launch of Chanel Gabrielle. I was deftly avoiding all perfume counters as if I owed them money. So it wasn’t really my fault when an over-enthusiastic sales girl, doused in Gabrielle, shoved the bottle in my face in Harvey-Nichols and I knew I was in trouble! The husband, very generously, picked it up for me from the duty-free one day and I was hooked. It is a very modern, clean smelling, floral scent which is noticeable without being over-imposing. This has exclusively been my weekend perfume the past two months (because look how dinky the bottle is!) I think this will be a great perfume for the coming warmer months as well.
Black Pointed Toe Flats
If I wear a closed shoe it will either be a sneaker or a pointed-toe. And since I can’t be bothered to wear pointed-toe heels with my daughter’s disposition, I have been wearing the heck out of these flats from Vince Camuto. I use them to smarten up my jeans and I also like the way they look with smart trousers. The tassel is very trendy and adds a nice detail to any outfit. They are genuine leather and were my best find from last year’s sale.
Peter Thomas Roth – Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
I ummed and ahhed over this product for a while before finally including it in my monthly favorites. The reason being that I still haven’t figured out how to appropriately use this product for my skin type, but I love what it does. This Pumpkin Enzyme Mask claims to exfoliate, resurface and polish your skin all in a matter of three to seven minutes. And I have personally seen it do all that. I apply a thin layer of it to my face, massage it gently with wet hands and then wash it off after five minutes. A couple of times, I have seen an instant glow on my face after using this product but a few times I also reacted to it. I am still playing around with the exact number of minutes it needs to be on my skin, how often to use it and also which parts of my face to simply avoid while applying this mask. It might sound like a lot of work but the glow it gives is totally worth it. Not suitable for super-duper sensitive skin.
Charlotte Tilbury – Filmstar Bronze and Glow
I have talked so much about the Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette in my 2017 beauty favorites post, so I won’t bore you with more words. But it won’t be a December/January monthly favorites list without this beauty. The sculpt shade in this duo is beautiful to wear over a deeper contour color or even on its own as a bronzer. The highlighter is such a magnificent golden shade that accentuates any makeup look and takes it to another level. This is a very finely milled, high quality product and well worth the high price point, in my opinion.
Soap and Glory – Righteous Butter Body Lotion
I remember putting this body lotion in my mental list of monthly favorites a week after I started wearing it. Since I have been using it all winter, I can confidently say that this is a very moisturizing body lotion, even for flaky, parched skin like mine. The moisture it provides lasts all day and I never get the itchy limbs I normally get in winter. But the actual reason of it being in my monthly favorites is the scent. This lotion smells better than any body product I have ever smelled. It has such a warm, sophisticated scent that lasts almost six hours and then faintly lingers a few more. It also doesn’t interfere with any perfume I might be wearing that day. I don’t know if I will still enjoy this scent in the warmer months, but it is the perfect lotion for sweater weather. I have been using this giant bottle for two months now and am only half way through.
Has anyone else tried these? Are these a new thing in the boring old world of biscuits? I saw them in my neighborhood grocery store a few months ago and bought a bag for my daughter. I bribe her with such small things so she will let me shower in peace (great parenting!) Unfortunately, it never happened because I ate the entire bag before she had a chance to taste them. Next trip to the grocery, I bought three more bags and hid them in my secret stash. Now I put one in my handbag and carry it around to eat whenever I am alone. My daughter is still unaware of their existence. They are just chocolate covered biscuit balls by the way. Also, there was a bag of these with dark chocolate which I specifically bought to take pictures for this blog post but…you guessed it! I digested them before photo day.
Philips Onion Chef
A chopper is probably the most used equipment in our entire household. I use it every single time I cook, doesn’t matter if all I need a tablespoon of chopped onions. Finding the right chopper has been a long struggle for me which ended when I bought the Philips Onion Chef a few months ago. This machine has two separate blades for coarse and fine chopping, which work very well for all kinds of vegetables and nuts. I have not used it to chop meat but I assume it will work well for that purpose as well. This is my most trusted helper in the kitchen these days and probably the best item in this list of monthly favorites.
Grace and Frankie – Netflix
This is another feel-good show, similar to the ones I always recommend. Even though it starts with a rather sad (and shocking) premise for the title characters, whose husbands leave them at near 70 years of age and get married to each other (!), the show is rather entertaining. It is heart-warming to see how the ever proper Grace finds a best friend in the hippy Frankie and how they re-discover their own selves along the way. Both, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are perfectly suited in their roles and are so endearing, it’s unbelievable. The thought that’s always on my mind while watching this show is, “If only I look like Grace and have Frankie’s spirit at 70!” A very easy to watch show with short episodes which make it suitable to watch at lunch time.
I am determined to write more of my monthly favorites posts this year, at least once every two months. I hope you all enjoy reading them as much as I do writing them. And I certainly hope you like my recommendations. Let me know what you think and what you have been enjoying these days. Thanks for being here right now.
